Runway 7-25, Lorain Co. Airport

Each year at its Annual Meeting, Flexible Pavements of Ohio (FPO) recognizes projects that demonstrate exceptional quality in asphalt pavement construction. These awards represent a diverse spectrum of pavement types from Ohio's interstate system with some of the highest traffic volumes in the nation, to low volume rural roadways, to airport runways, and commercial facilities.

Runway 7-25 of the Lorain County Regional Airport, The Shelly Company resurfaced the Lorain County Regional Airport. The work on this project was extensive. The existing taxiway was converted to a temporary runway. Milling of the runway was performed to remove two inches of pavement. Crack sealing and placement of Stargrid fabric over longitudinal and transverse cracks followed. Drainage was improved and finally the hot mix asphalt was placed under the rigors of FAAs P401 specification. A testimony to the pavements smoothness is best left to the pilots who use the runway. As one said& Have we touched down yet?
