US 24, Lucas Co.

Each year at its Annual Meeting, Flexible Pavements of Ohio (FPO) recognizes projects that demonstrate exceptional quality in asphalt pavement construction. These awards represent a diverse spectrum of pavement types from Ohio's interstate system with some of the highest traffic volumes in the nation, to low volume rural roadways, to airport runways, and commercial facilities.

Award Recipient:
Gerken Paving and ODOT District 2

Gerken Paving rehabilitated US Route 24, the Anthony Wayne Trail. The project extends from Monclova Road to the Interstate 80 overpass in the City of Maumee. The work consisted of upgrading 3 ½ miles of the pavement, milling and a two course overlay. Because of heavy traffic volume the paving was constrained to a 30 day completion requirement. Milled surfaces were required to be covered the same day. In all, approximately 30,000 tons of hot mix was used to finish the project.
