Each year at its Annual Meeting, Flexible Pavements of Ohio (FPO) recognizes projects that demonstrate exceptional quality in asphalt pavement construction. These awards represent a diverse spectrum of pavement types from Ohio's interstate system with some of the highest traffic volumes in the nation, to low volume rural roadways, to airport runways, and commercial facilities.
The Erie County and Kalahari Resorts project consisted of the construction of new roads and parking lots to service the facility, which is Ohios largest indoor water park. Erie Blacktop used 1 ½ inches of 448 Type 2 and 1 inch of 448 Type 1 for the parking lot and 3 ½ inches, 301 bituminous aggregate base; 1 ¾ inches, 448 Type 2 with PG70-22 polymer modified binder and 1 inch, 448 Type 1H with PG70-22 polymer modified binder. The company used a total of 17,650 tons.
